Everyone at FANGORIA is, of course, very happy about Everything Everywhere All At Once‘s massive victory at the Oscars last night. Jamie Lee Curtis, Michelle Yeoh, the Daniels, and more took home their very own little gold statues, and we love ’em all … but those of us who grew up in the ’80s were particularly delighted to see Ke Huy Quan win in the Best Supporting Actor category. His Oscar win was a truly beautiful thing to witness, the sorta thing that happens just often enough at these big, hours-long awards shows to ensure that we’ll never really stop tuning in.
And, hey, wanna hear a fun fact? All the way back in 1999, Ke Huy Quan graduated from the USC School of Cinematic Arts, where he produced, shot, and edited a horror-comedy short called Voodoo alongside director Gregg Bishop (who’d later contribute to 2014’s V/H/S Viral with another horror short, “Dante the Great”). The short went on to win the Audience Award at the Slamdance Film Festival, and apparently continues to be shown to incoming USC students to this day.
So, while a film like Everything Everywhere All At Once might not fall under the purview of a horror magazine/website like FANGORIA, we can certainly celebrate both it and Ke Huy Quan’s major win at last night’s Oscars by sharing that short with you today.

Those of us who grew up watching Ke Huy Quan in movies like Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom and The Goonies are so excited to see that dude back in the game, and in such a major way. Where’s he going from here? Next up is the Disney+ series American Born Chinese (where he’ll appear alongside his Everything Everywhere co-stars Michelle Yeoh and Stephanie Hsu) and a six-episode run on Loki‘s second season, but after that? Hell, why not make a horror film, Ke Huy? We’d be first in line!
