Friends! Our very own Michael Gingold is hosting an upcoming screening of Just Before Dawn, including a post-film Q&A with filmmaker Jeff Lieberman. It’s campers vs. backwoods baddies in Lieberman’s third feature, with horror in broad daylight taking center stage. The event takes place Friday, June 16 at the Yonkers Alamo Drafthouse. Gingold says, “Just Before Dawn is a standout in the survival-horror genre, and my personal favorite of Jeff Lieberman’s films. It’s a must-see on the big screen, and especially with Jeff there in person to tell his many great stories about its production. I’m looking forward to both moderating the Q&A with Jeff and experiencing Dawn in a theater!”
Here’s the description from the official event page.
Five friends take to the mountains for a camping trip, only to find themselves terrorized by inbred cabin-dwellers. From the unheeded warnings of forest ranger George Kennedy to the backwoods bad guys, the beats of Just Before Dawn may be familiar. But this soft-focus slasher still manages to surprise. Quiet and restrained, even in the face of machete-wielding maniacs, Just Before Dawn stands out among the hoard of post-Friday The 13th murder-in-the-woods movies. Reveling in the beauty of Oregon’s Silver Falls State Park, Dawn rejects the dirt and grime typical of rural horror to provide an unsettlingly tranquil backdrop for this slow-burning, day-lit thriller.
