Here’s some not-so-surprising news, via the good folks over at Bloody Disgusting: Tobin Bell (AKA the artist sometimes known as Jigsaw) is returning to the Saw franchise in a new entry which will arrive next October!
Says Bloody Disgusting:
Tobin Bell will reprise his signature role as John Kramer as Lionsgate and Twisted Pictures prepare to go into production later this month on the next installment of the billion-dollar Saw franchise, with the new film slated for release on October 27, 2023.
Franchise stalwart Kevin Greutert, who directed the highly regarded Saw VI and Saw: The Final Chapter, and edited Saw I through V and Jigsaw, is directing the project.
Well, this is an interesting turn of events! After Spiral: From the Book of Saw hoovered up over $40M at the worldwide box office last year, it seemed inevitable that the Saw franchise would continue … but it remained unclear what direction it might head in after Darren Bousman’s entry. We still don’t know what they’re up to with the next one (hell, we don’t even have a title yet; this is one of those project announcements that’s mostly just a mission statement), but Bell’s return indicates that they may be getting back to basics. Interesting!
