One of my favorite movies of the year is nearly ready to be fully consumed by your eagerly awaiting eyeballs! Written and directed by Travis Stevens (Jakob’s Wife), painfully gorgeous, shot on 16mm, giving big best-of the ’70s vibes, except it’s from 2022. Inspired by surrealist art and Greek mythology, A Wounded Fawn follows the story of Meredith Tanning (Sarah Lind), a local museum curator who is dipping her toe back into the dating pool, only to be targeted by a charming serial killer (Josh Ruben). When a fateful romantic getaway between the two becomes a tense game of cat and mouse, both must confront the madness within him. Ruben absolutely comes apart on screen and in this new alternative poster art, check it out.
It’s giving us Greek tragedy meets Hellraiser with its gooey, “what lurks behind the mask” violence. In other words… yeah, it rules!
But wait… there’s more! In this exclusive sneak peek, Meredith (Lind) hears a startling sound while staying at a cabin in the woods, and she asks Bruce (Ruben) to investigate. Toeing the line between awkward and alarming, take a look.
A Wounded Fawn is streaming exclusively on Shudder December 1.
