Demián Rugna’s Terrified is hands down one of the scariest films of the past decade. Released in 2017 and still scaring the shit out of newcomers most of a decade later, Rugna’s film is mandatory viewing for any horror fan who thinks they’ve seen it all. As such, we have been eagerly anticipating his next film, When Evil Lurks, and today we are thrilled to be getting our first look at that film’s trailer.
Let’s take a look:
Yup. Looks like Regna’s still got it! This trailer, which debuted on Variety earlier this morning, is certainly effective, but it’s also admittedly very light on narrative details.
Here’s how Variety describes Regna’s latest:
“Diverging from the intimate urbanity of Terrified, the film takes place in a vast, desolate rural territory rocked by the presence of a demonic force that goes out in search of flesh to commandeer. The community, held hostage at its behest, is rapidly goaded into desperate depravity.
At the center, two brothers are tasked with abating an already-possessed corpse after proper spiritual recourse fails and the do-nothing arm of the law leaves them to fend for themselves. The narrative continues to weave through the farmland and its homesteads, chaos traveling at warp speed, lending to the unsettling premonition that nobody gets out unscathed.”
When Evil Lurks stars Ezequiel Rodriguez, Demián Salomon, Luis Ziembrowski, Silvia Sabater, and Marcelo Michinaux, and will soon screen at both TIFF (as one of their Midnight Madness selections) and in Austin, at Fantastic Fest, later this month. After that, Regna’s film will hit theaters on October 6th … before heading to Shudder on October 27th, just in time for your Halloween horror movie marathons. Excellent timing on that!
We are very excited to see this one, and recommend that anyone who hasn’t seen Terrified already seek that film out before When Evil Lurks arrives. If nothing else, you’ll want to know what you’re in for when this one hits theaters (and Shudder!) in October. Stay tuned for more on When Evil Lurks as further updates become available.
