Last year, morbid curiosity and an increasing tolerance for “Public Domain Mining” led audiences to purchase over $5M worth of tickets to Rhys Frake-Waterfield’s Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey. Made on a budget of just $50,000, the film’s success immediately earned it a sequel, this year’s Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey 2, which has generated notably stronger reviews than its predecessor. You can see where this is headed.
According to Variety, Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey 3 has officially been given the greenlight from Jagged Edge Productions. Rhys Frake-Waterfield will return to write and direct the sequel, which will further expand on the filmmaker’s burgeoning “Poohniverse.” But that’s not all:
“According to the producers, Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey 3 will have a bigger budget than the previous films and will introduce new characters from the original Winnie-the-Pooh stories, including Rabbit, the heffalumps and the woozles. All will no doubt be given sadistic, murderous twists.”
This was similar to the pitch for Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey 2, which promised – and, by most accounts, delivered – better makeup effects, bigger kills, and a generally more coherent experience than the original Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey. The budget for the sequel was reportedly “ten times” that of the original. What kind of budget will the third installment be working with? No word as of yet, but if we had to venture a guess we would say $500M, making it the most expensive movie ever made.
As of this writing, it is unclear as to whether or not Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey 3‘s production will impact the already-announced 2025 release of Poohniverse: Monsters Assemble, though that seems unlikely given the incredibly quick turnaround times on these films.
Nothing further to report on Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey 3 at this juncture, but rest assured we will keep you informed as further updates roll in. Stay tuned, folks.
