Would you like to play a game? We’re guessing if you clicked on this post, the answer is yes. To that end, Lionsgate has released the first official poster for this year’s Saw X, which will be bringing the series back to its roots in a very big way. Tobin Bell is back as Jigsaw (more on that in a moment) and it appears he is up to his old tricks once again. If this poster is any indication, things are going to get gnarly. Cover your eyes.
As we can see, at least one of the traps in the upcoming tenth installment in the Saw series will involve someone very possibly losing their eyes. The color scheme harkens back to the early days of the series as well, which is fitting since it was recently confirmed that this entry will actually be set between the events of the first two films. What a twist! That certainly explains how Bell is returning as John Kramer, since he’s been canonically dead since Saw III. On that note, the official synopsis for the movie reads as follows:
“John Kramer (Tobin Bell) is back. The most chilling installment of the Saw franchise yet explores the untold chapter of Jigsaw’s most personal game. Set between the events of Saw I and II, a sick and desperate John travels to Mexico for a risky and experimental medical procedure in hopes of a miracle cure for his cancer – only to discover the entire operation is a scam to defraud the most vulnerable. Armed with a newfound purpose, John returns to his work, turning the tables on the con artists in his signature visceral way through a series of ingenious and terrifying traps.”
Little else has been confirmed by the studio at this point, with no further casting reported. We do know that Kevin Greutert (Saw VI) is returning to direct, with a script by series veterans Peter Goldfinger & Josh Stolberg. This will be a follow-up to 2021’s Spiral: From the Book of Saw, which attempted to take the series in a new direction with new characters. Following that, the studio felt it best to head back to a familiar well rather than press forward with more new ideas.
With any luck, this means a trailer will be coming our way sooner rather than later. So keep your eyes peeled for that and we’ll be sure to bring that to you as soon as it’s made available. In the meantime, feel free to speculate wildly about how that horrifying eye trap might actually function.
Saw X is set to hit theaters on September 29.
