For years now, Session 9 director Brad Anderson has been reliably churning out modestly-budgeted thrillers like Blood (2022), Fractured (2019), and Beirut (2018), but it’s been some time since we’ve seen the filmmaker flex his muscles on something more decidedly supernatural, like 2010’s Vanishing on 7th Street. According to a new report over at Deadline Hollywood, however, that will soon change.
Apparently, filming has already begun on Anderson’s latest feature, World Breaker, and it sounds right up our alley:
โFive years ago, a tear in the fabric of reality brought creatures to our world from an alternate dimension bent on our destruction. A father hides his daughter on an island to keep her safe while he prepares her for survival and the battles to come. But when the world is about to break, no place is safe.โ
Deadline’s post also reveals that World Breaker will star Milla Jovovich (the Resident Evil franchise), Luke Evans (High-Rise) and a newcomer by the name of Billie Boullet. Evans and Jovovich will be playing the parents of Boullet’s character and, quite frankly, if I were to be trapped on an island in a world where creatures from another dimension break through the fabric of reality, I’d hope to be trapped on that island with Milla Jovovich and Luke Evans. You’d want a couple ass-kickers like that on hand.
Beyond the fact that World Breaker was written by Joshua Rollins (Infinite Storm), we don’t know much else about Anderson’s latest. It’s exciting to see him tackling something like this, however, and especially with this cast. Here’s hoping they’ve got someone really sharp working on the creature FX.
Nothing further to report about World Breaker at this time, but rest assured we’ll be keeping our ear to the ground for further updates on this one, and will have those updates for you just as soon as they roll in. Stay tuned, folks! Maybe use this time to revisit Anderson’s Session 9, which absolutely rips.
