We love to see horror succeed here at FANGORIA. We also love Ashley Lyle and Bart Nickerson’s Yellowjackets, the Showtime series that dares to ask the question, “Sooo, whatta ya think your friends taste like?”
And so, when Showtime sends us a press release crowing about the ongoing success of Yellowjackets S2, we are more or less honor-bound to report that news to you, the gentle FANGORIA readers of the world.
Here’s the news: the show’s second season premiere debuted to 2M viewers across a variety of platforms, but now that figure has increased nearly three-fold, with 5.5M viewers having caught up. Showtime also says Yellowjackets is showing “double digit growth” on streaming viewership on a week-to-week basis. Interest in the series is so high, in fact, that they’ve also seen a 65% increase in streaming numbers for the season one premiere, which means that a whole bunch of newcomers are starting from the top. They are wise to do so.
As for the show itself? We’ve been having a blast with season two! Lauren Ambrose (as adult Van) and Elijah Wood (as citizen detective Walter) have both proven themselves excellent additions to the cast (though we suspect one of those two may not survive ’til season three), and we’ve been pleasantly surprised by how gleeful the show seems while diving into even darker territory than season one.
Where all of this is headed is anyone’s guess (one thing we’re hoping we get an answer sooner rather than later: the meaning behind that mystical-looking symbol that appears all over the goddamn place), but it’s both satisfying and encouraging to see S2 solving some of S1’s dangling mysteries as it goes along. Long story short, we feel like we’re in very good hands.
Nothing further to report on Yellowjackets S2 at present, but stay tuned for further updates as they become available!
